professional oboist (oboe d'amore, cor anglais), also teacher.

My teaching and coaching work has encompassed tutoring for youth orchestras and adult courses. I have taught at schools and privately over many years.

I currently teach pupils in London and in South Devon and always welcome students of all ages and stages. (I can loan a student instrument to beginners.)

Training and experience

I began to learn the oboe at school at Downe House, Berkshire. (It was the first woodwind vacancy and I was anxious to start as it meant giving up Latin. A fortunate accident!)

Despite being advised not to take up music I studied for four years at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where I won a scholarship and prizes before gaining my AGSM diploma, with further intensive, but rewarding study in Germany.

On leaving college I joined the Royal Ballet orchestra, as oboe and cor anglais player, for extensive national tours and seasons at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
